The differences from the preceding model, the W580, stretch further than a design overhaul. A 2.2-inch QVGA display and the 3.2 megapixel camera will surely make it a tasty treat even without all the Walkman goodies on board. * 3 megapixel camera

Samsung i8910 Omnia

Samsung i8910 Omnia

Now that's a big one - the handset with one of the longest spec sheets we've ever seen has just dropped on us like a bomb. The Omnia HD is Samsung's go at touch-taming the Symbian S60 and is introducing truly revolutionary stuff.

A 3.7" OLED capacitive touchscreen, an 8 megapixel camera that should be able to humble even some digicams and of course the HD video recording - does it really get any sweeter? Geeks have been warned - continue reading this preview at your own risk. We are not to be held responsible for sleep disorders or compulsive spending.

Samsung i8910 Omnia HD is surely one of the most interesting packages to look out for at this year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. With a specs sheet like that it's hardly a surprise but we cannot quite get Samsung's choice of name. There was nothing wrong with the original Omnia but reusing a name is not exactly suggestive of revolutionary. Oh, and don't get us started on the superscript. It may look cool and all, but just go ahead and google OmniaHD.

With the following preview we did our best to provide you with as much information as possible for the very short time we spent with the handset. Since our unit is at the very early stages of development we would focus mainly on the hardware and ergonomics as the software is well in need of getting polished.

specification:

* General: GSM 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, UMTS 900/1900/2100 MHz, GPRS/EDGE class 12, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
* Form factor: Touchscreen bar
* Dimensions: 123 x 58 x 12.9 mm

Hotspot Shield 1.13

Free, Reliable Wi-Fi Security

Sure, public Wi-Fi hotspots are great. After all, what would life be without checking your email each morning at your favorite café?

But while you’re enjoying your latte and a bagel, some hacker might be accessing your passwords, credit card numbers, sensitive company data and much more. And standard antivirus software won’t protect you.

That’s why AnchorFree is pleased to offer Hotspot Shield. This free security software keeps your Internet connection secure at public hotspots, home or work.

100% Security Through a VPN

Hotspot Shield creates a virtual private network (VPN) between your laptop or iPhone and our Internet gateway. This impenetrable tunnel prevents snoopers and hackers from viewing your email, instant messages, credit card information or anything else you send over the network. Hotspot Shield security application is free to download, employs the latest VPN technology, and is easy to install and use.

Hotspot Shield runs on: Windows 2000/XP/Vista, Mac OS X (10.4 Tiger), Mac OS X (10.5 Leopard)

Please use the following instructions to setup Hotspot Shield on your iPhone. In just four easy steps, your connection will be secured.

Make sure that Wi-Fi is marked "OFF" in
Settings -> Wi-Fi

Then find the VPN settings in
Settings -> General -> Network -> VPN -> Add VPN Configuration:

* Select the L2TP tab/pane
* Description: HotspotShield
* Server: 64.55.144.10
* Account: [Click "Get Account ID" button]
* RSA SecurID: OFF
* Password: [Click "Get Account ID" button]
* Secret: password
* Send all traffic: ON

You are now done. Save the settings and hit the "HOME" button to quit. Make sure to turn Wi-Fi back "ON".

To activate Hotspot Shield on your iPhone, the VPN setting needs to be turned on. From "HOME" menu, go to Settings and click the "On" tab for VPN. Your Status will change to "CONNECTED" and the VPN icon will appear on top in the iPhone Tray when complete. If you cannot connect to the VPN immediately, power down your iPhone, turn it back on, and turn the VPN to "ON".

If you cannot connect to VPN immediately, power down your iPhone, turn it back on, and turn VPN to "ON" in "Settings".

iPhone SMS Tricks

Receiving an SMS on the iPhone is a great experience for users. Not only does the iPhone offer all the general functions as normal mobile phones do, but there are a number of other things you can do with an SMS text message. They include the following:

Call or email someone you have sent an SMS

Calling or sending an email to someone you have sent an SMS is very easy. Simply tap the Text icon on the Home screen.

Next tap the message in the Messages List, the tap the Call button at the top of the conversation to call the person. Alternatively you can tap the Contact Info button and then tap e-mail address to send an email.

If the text message contents consists of a phone number or email address, you can simply tap the number or email to dial or send an email.

Add the sender of an SMS to your Contact List

Simply tap the name or number that appears on the message in the Messages List, the tap the Add to Contacts button. This will add the information to your Contacts List.

Opening a URL

If the text message contains a URL, simply tap the URL and it will open the web page in the iPhone’s Safari browser.

Viewing an Address in Maps

If a text message contains an address, you can simply tap the address to see it in a map format in Maps.

Send a message to someone in your Recent List

This is a very easy process to follow. Tap the Phone icon on the Home screen and then tap the Recents button. Then tap the blue icon to the right of a name or number and then tap Text Message at the bottom of the info screen.

The same process can be followed when sending a message to someone in your Favourites List

Agile Messenger – The Best iPhone App

Messaging has become a very popular way to communicate between friends and family over the internet. Rather than wait for ordinary mail or worry about sending and receiving emails, you can text message and instant message to instantly get your message delivered and read. The only problem is that there are so many different messaging services and cell phone providers, that it isn’t always each to be able to reach your friends. However, with the creation of the iPhone, a whole new era of on the go instant messaging has become available where people can not only message from home, but anywhere there is a WI-FI access point or cellular service.

Agile Messenger App for iPhone and iPod touch in my opinion, is so versatile that you can access nearly any messaging service from its core software, allowing you to contact just about anyone on any possible network, regardless of if they have an iPhone or not. You can send and receive messages from anyone on your MSN, AIM, Yahoo!, ICQ, and GoogleTalk contact list. Even though ICQ was once thought dead, it is now experiencing resurgence in part because of the ease in which it can be used on the Apple iPhone.
When it comes to choosing the best iPhone App, you certainly cannot go wrong with Agile, who also has a host of other products, such as Agile Lie Detector and Agile Forces, in the iTunes APP store. The best part about Agile Messenger is that it sends messages via SMS, which helps you to avoid messaging fees. How great is that?

If you want Agile Messenger BEST iPhone App on the market, then simply go to the App store and download it. You might also be able to find it on other websites for cheaper, or even free. Another great part about messaging, rather than email or plain text messaging, is that you are not limited to other cell phone users. If your friends are home on their computer, then you can communicate with them as if you were both on the same system. Agile Messenger is the best at this because it can communicate with nearly every single messaging network.

So if you want to start really taking advantage of the capabilities that having an iPhone can give you, then you need to start with Agile Messenger iPhone app on the market. Find a place where you can buy it or download it and get started. There is no reason to stick to ancient methods and messaging tools.
If you want to learn more about Agile Messenger, then look up AgileMobile, which is the company that makes this awesome iPhone app. Still, there is no reason to wait when you should be grabbing it today. Don’t be the guy or gal that makes their friends wait for half the day to respond to messages, pick up the best iPhone app on the market and be able to communicate quickly and on the go with ease.

How to Connect to Your iPhone via SSH

SSH, also known as secure shell, is a term used to describe a network protocol that allows you to take a jailbroken iPhone and use it to transfer files back and forth via a WI-FI connection, which is by far the easiest way to transfer data between your phone and PC. If you are looking to install new applications, transfer podcasts, games, movies, or music, then using if you learn how to connect to your iPhone via SSH you will be able to do it much easier and faster than any other method. There are a few steps involved in the process, and you will need to meet a few requirements to be able to do so, but once you’ve figured it out you will have yourself a lot of time and hassle.

The first requirement for learning how to connect to your iPhone via SSH is to make sure that you have an unlocked, or “jailbroken,” iPhone. If you don’t know what this is, then I suggest looking it up online to find out if it is something you are interested in. The current iPhone firmware update is version 2.2, so try to look for some information that includes that version.

Next, you need to make sure you have an SSH program on both your computer and your iPhone, once you’ve done that you are very close to being able to connect to your iPhone via SSH. You can turn SSH on and off via the iPhone menus to prevent others from trying to hack in, but make sure that before you attempt to connect to your iPhone via SSH that you turn it on.

To find the iPhone’s IP address, you need to go into WI-FI settings and go into the home profile section. Use that number as your iPhone’s IP address. Then you will need to move to your home PC and bring up the SSH application. The next step for how to connect to your iPhone via SSH is to type in the iPhone’s IP, the username “root,” and the password that you established. This should get you access to your iPhone via SSH. You should see some sort of confirmation and then you will be taken to a screen where you can start transferring or installing files.

If you are familiar with using SSH or other programs, such as FTP, then you will find this to be a fairly simple process. However, as I said before if you really want to learn how to connect to your iPhone via SSH then you will need to make sure your iPhone is jailbroken first. This is usually the greatest obstacle for people to overcome. If you already have a jailbroken iPhone, then it is as simple as installing the programs on both ends, setting up the IP and password information, and logging in to start doing business. You really can save yourself a lot of time if you use this method to transfer files back and forth on your iPhone.

The T-Mobile G1 is made by HTC (the device was code named the HTC Dream) and was introduced this morning at a press conference in NYC. While this is the first Android device to be announced there should be many more following. The G1 is a T-Mobile exclusive (both USA and Europe).

Specs and features of the G1 include:

* Quad-band GSM / Dual band 3G / EDGE / Wifi
* Touch screen with iPhone like dragging
* Slide out QWERTY keyboard
* 3 megapixel camera with auto-focus
* Amazon MP3 store app to download DRM-free songs over WiFi
* Multi-tasking
* IM (Yahoo/MSN/AIM/Google Talk)
* Google Maps with street view
* HTML email client (POP3 and IMAP) plus contact and calendar syncing for Gmail users
* Web browser using WebKit

The G1 will retail for $179 with a 2-year contract when it starts shipping on October 22nd. Current customers can order online and the G1 will be delivered when it's launched. Like the iPhone, the G1's service agreement requires a data plan. Unlimited data with 400 messages runs $25 monthly while unlimited data and unlimited messaging will cost $35 monthly. Since it's a 3G device the phone will only be made available in T-Mobile's current 3G markets. You can use T-Mobile USA's coverage search tool to find out if your area is 3G or not, though the number of markets should be expanding rapidly. The G1 will not be available without a contract or via pre-paid service.

VK Mobile files for bankruptcy

It appears the rumblings of severe financial trouble at VK Mobile were true, the Korean Times is reporting VK Mobile has filed for bankruptcy. Cutthroat competition and currency fluctuations hit profits and the company was recently unable to pay on its debt. Creditors have put VK on a debt workout program.

The entire Korean mobile phone manufacturing industry is under intense pressure. An analyst with Korea Investment & Securities believes that there is room for only a couple of competitors:

Roh projected only Samsung Electronics, the world's third-largest cell phone maker, and the fourth-largest player LG Electronics will survive among Korean firms. That means the nation's No. 3 vendor Pantech will also likely fail.

US MVNO Helio carries two handsets, one each from VK Mobile and Pantech.

BlackBerry Javelin

The fine addicts over at Crackberry got themselves a pre-release BlackBerry Javelin, and found it to be a worthy follow-up to the Curve, as well as having advantages even over the schmancy-pants Bold. The Javelin is not only the smallest of the three, which feels great in the hand and the pocket, but also boasts the sharpest screen at 480x360 HVGA+, for smaller and crisper icons. The camera, processor, and internal memory all get a significant bump from the Curve, making it noticeably snappier. In terms of navigation, the keyboard is very slightly more condensed, but the reviewer finds it just as easy to use. But the biggest improvement might be the smallest - a dedicated Lock button. We still don't have an official release date or price, but the pre-release review is a happy hint that it might come out sooner rather than later.

  • 512 MHz Processor
  • 256 MB onboard flash memory (more room for apps)
  • Hot-swappable microSD slot - located under the battey door
  • 480 by 360 high-res HVGA+ display
  • 3.2MP camera
  • Micro USB charging/syncing port, w/ high speed data

Motorola RIZR Z6

At CES 2007 Las Vegas Motorola joined the gang and presented the successor of the popular RIZR Z3 - the MOTORIZR Z6. The new slider is part of the new MOTOMUSIC platform and comes along with the updated EDGE version of the Motorola MING A1200 model. It seems that Motorola would keep their marketing strategy of producing slightly updated version to their existing handsets instead of making entirely new mobiles from scratch. The prospects of a new group of music-oriented devices sounds exciting since this is the current trend on the market and Motorola didn't have such mobiles up until now.

The Motorola RIZR Z6 will run on a new Linux-Java-based user interface and promises enhanced music experience featuring connectivity with Windows Media Player 11 and supporting Janus DRM. It will have the same design as its predecessor RIZR Z3 with almost the same size but it will weigh 10 g less. The new RIZR Z6 will have an improved display - this time with QVGA resolution, but it will retain the 2 megapixel camera of the predecessor. We hope that there would be some improvement in the camera quality department too since the RIZR Z3 deserved some criticism along that line of functionality. The MOTORIZR Z6 is expected to be available in the first half of 2007.

Concept Cell Phones of the Future

Pivot Point
This handset features a swiveling screen that can be set up like an easel for easy typing, say, with a keyboard attachment. If it ever gets out of the design stage, the device is sure to be a hit with mobile TV and video-conferencing junkies.

Still, it comes with a 2-megapixel camera and Bluetooth for connecting to other devices-all that, at 91.5 grams. Available in Europe and Korea starting in the second half

Clamshells and candy bars be gone. Tomorrow's cell phones may bear little resemblance to the snap-open handsets or even the sleek, flat rectangular phones we sport today.

Samsung SOUL Dynamic Touch Phone

Samsung has released a new slider in Europe called Soul, its new flagship slider phone. Serving as the final bow for the Ultra Edition, it blends in a split-screen, context-sensitive touch control system similar to that of the LG Venus: rather than rely on fixed buttons or an entire front touch surface, the Soul includes a small touchscreen area whose buttons change depending on the immediate context for the screen above. When playing music, track controls replace normal commands, Samsung says in an example. The Soul is also the first Samsung handset to sport a themed UI where the entire look and sound can be replaced at once. The handset is both very camera- and data-focused. A 5-megapixel camera is accompanied by a high-power LED flash as well as by face detection and image stabilization - all features normally reserved for some of the better dedicated cameras, the company says. Transfers are quick with 3G Internet access over HSDPA up to 7.2Mbps downstream; the phone supports North America with quad-band calling over GSM, though whether it also supports 3G in the Western region is unknown. The phone makes heavy use of Google features and supports built-in Gmail and search functions, including a dedicated button at the top level of the interface.

The 12.8mm (0.5in) thick phone is said to be music-savvy with AAC, FM radio, MP3, and WMA support, including protected WMA music stores. Bang & Olufsen's ICEpower audio enhancement technology is also onboard the Soul, which should be available first in Europe by April but is likely to see service in the US through AT&T if left in its current form.
Soul Specifications:
* Connectivity: quad band GSM/HSDPA 7.2 Mbps
* Display: 2.2" 16M color QVGA TFT
* Camera: 5 mpxwith autofocus, 4x digital zoom, face recognition, image stabilizer and WDR optimizer, power LED
* FM Radio with RDS
* Google mail
* 15 hours of music playback
* Bluetooth 2.0/USB 2.0
* ICE Power digital power amp by B&O

Asus P552w is comes with 3D UI plus GPS and Wi-Fi

Asus announced their latest WinMo Pro handset - the Asus P552w - a compact device that not only features the latest Asus-grown 3D UI Glide, but also packs a powerful CPU, as well as both GPS and Wi-Fi. This nifty device seems to have almost all goodies you could wish for, except for a capable camera (just as an Apple handset we've heard about - called the iPhone or something).

Named after a supersonic fighter jet plane Asus P552w is powered by a fast Marvel 624Mhz CPU and has 128MB of RAM. (We were just kidding about the fighter jet thing - but we had you there for a second, right? Don't worry, the new Asus device name is so complex that it could have been a fighter jet alright.)

Sony Ericsson's Idou

Sony Ericsson's Idou has made it into the wild once again these days, with a wide range of images with the device available on the Web. Among the photos with the handset, the ones that might catch your attention a little are those that show the device dressed in silver.
Most of the info on Sony Ericsson's device has been already presented in the news, and there are not too many striking new things that need to be said this time around, except maybe for the stylus dongle that can now be seen in some of the new photos.The mobile phone was unveiled last month during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, and hasn't become available on the market yet, but the new set of photos could make some enthusiasts rejoice, as would the device itself.

Most of you might already know that Idou is expected to come to the market featuring a
12-megapixel photo snapper, while also including a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, only to name some of the impressive features it will sport. One interesting fact though about Sony Ericsson Idou is that this might not be its final name after all, yet no details in this direction are available at the moment. The handset that can be seen in the photos published by Fony seems to be running under S60 5th edition developed for touchscreen handsets, but this is not the final Symbian platform that Idou is expected to include upon hitting the market, which might suggest that the new operating system is not yet ready for showcasing.

Other new things that might be said about
the device at the moment include a word on its battery, which seems to be a 1000 mAh Li-Po one, and on the phone's user interface, which shows some tweaking, like the Media center and the picture gallery. And while the camera of the pre-release unit that was snapped by the guys from Fony is said to only produce 9-megapixel samples, the final product is expected to turn into a great shooter.
